Road maintenance and resurfacing commences in Elsies River

17 November 2025

The City of Cape Town has started resurfacing Halt Road between Balvenie Avenue and Owen Road in Elsies River. The project kicked off today and will continue until Friday, 12 December 2025, with work taking place from 19:00 to 05:30, Monday to Friday.

‘As we approach the end of a productive year, the City’s Urban Mobility Directorate is pleased to announce the start of this road rehabilitation project in Elsies River. The work entails the resurfacing of the existing asphalt surface, replacement of damaged kerbs and the reinstatement of all road markings affected during construction. This routine maintenance helps extend the lifespan of the City’s road network and ensures we keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The City urges residents and motorists to proceed with caution in the vicinity of the roadworks and to plan for potential delays. Where feasible, alternative routes are recommended.

All lanes are expected to be reopened to traffic by 06:00 on weekdays.
